That’s because when you lease, you’re only paying for the depreciation of the car during the period you have it. This allows drivers to get a new car with all the latest features that they may not be able to afford through buying it outright. Leasing also eliminates some of the hassle that goes into trying to get rid of the car when you’re looking for a new one. You can simply return it to the dealership and either walk away or upgrade to a new lease. Sometimes, your lease may include regularly scheduled maintenance at no cost to you.

Perhaps the biggest downside to leasing a car is that you don’t own it. Because of this, you can’t make customizations or alterations to it. You’ll also have to be careful to not cause any damage to the vehicle, as even minor scrapes or dents can be costly when you return it. There will also be a yearly mileage limit that you cannot exceed, and if you do, those costs could be pretty high as well. While it may be more convenient at the end of your lease to turn the car in and walk away, you won’t make any money back for it like you would if you purchased it.
